Ireede-Oginni Grassroots Foundation Faults Nationwide Strike Over Minimum Wage..Asks Labour To Be Realistic, Wants FG To Tackle Foods Shortages

A Non-Governmental Organization Ireede-Oginni Grassroots Foundation has faulted the organized labour's declaration of nation-wide strike beginning from Monday over the inability of the Federal Government to agree on the proposed N494,000 as  minimum wage for workers in Nigeria

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration had increased its offer to N60,000 from the previous N57,000, N54,000 and initial N48,000 which the labour rejected, describing it as very ridiculous, a far cry from the proposed N495,000 minimum wage

But Founder of the foundation Chief Hon Funmilayo Ireede-Oginni in a statement on Saturday made available to Edu-Biznews in Abeokuta, asked leadership of both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to be realistic in their demand for Increment In salaries, insisting that the only practical solutions to high inflation in the economy,is for both the organized labour and government to work on how to ensure massive injection of fund into agriculture sector and other incentives to encourage more investment in food production, so as  to crash the disturbing high prices of foods and commodities in the market

Ireede-Oginni in the statement, also called for introduction of price control mechanism to effectively checkmate excesses of traders, saying doing this will enhance purchasing power of Nigerians particularly average workers who are still demanding for over N400, 000 as minimum wage

The foundation stressed the need for organized labour to work closely with the government to ensure the completion of the ongoing rehabilitation of refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna , so as to produce locally and stop importation of Premium Motor Spirit(PMS) popularly known as petrol,  diesel, kerosene and aviation fuel which are responsible for high cost of transportating of food items to urban areas

The Chief Executive Officer of emerging business conglomerate Terra Integrated Services Limited in the statement, maintained that no amount of Increment of salary for workers would end the sufferings of Nigerians, except something is done quickly to address the food crisis in the country

The founder of Future Promise Group of Schools Abeokuta, Ogun State and  however pledged to continue to compliment the Ogun State Government effort in the education by providing scholarships to indigent but brilliant students while assisting less priviledged women  in rural areas with the needed grants to support their small scale businesses
