Gov Sanwo-Olu Rewards LASU'S Best Graduating Student With N10m..Showers Praises On V.C For Sustaining Academic Excellence




Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has rewarded overall best graduating student of the Lagos State University Ojo, Olaniyi Mubarak Olawale of Accounting Education Department with a cash prize of N10 million for his impressive CGPA  of 4.98 at the end of the 2022/2023 academic session, just the governor showered praises on the Vice- Chancellor, Prof.Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello for raising the bar of the institution's culture of academic excellence 

Sanwo-Olu, a visitor to the university announced the cash award on Thursday during the grand-finale of the 27th Convocation ceremonies of the institution on its Ojo main campus, saying the cash gift is to celebrate Olawale and encourage someone who is working hard like him 

I'm announcing the the cash gift of 10 naira in recognition and honour of your outstanding feat . I believe that someone out there is working very hard to be the next Olaniyi Mubarak Olawale and I want to encourage you, where ever you might be now to keep your eyes on that goal and make us all as well as yourself, very proud "
The governor at the event that witnessed the awards of degrees to 2,164 postgraduates including Postgraduate Diplomas, Academic Masters, Professional Masters, Doctor of Philosophy and Professional Doctoral Degrees , stressed the need to always encourage the tradition of academic excellence as a society 


"As a society, we have a responsibility to send a strong message out that academic excellence must never be underestimated or taken for granted in our society, our young people must see reasons to hunger for it with the same energy and enthusiasm"he stated 

The governor then lauded the leadership of Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello whose tenure according to him, has raised the bar of academic excellence at the university, considering the impressive rankings and awards received in the recent times 

Sanwo-Olu noted some of the fears to include, the third most subscribed university by candidates in Nigeria, best State University in West Africa and ninth best university in Nigeria, the best digitally advanced State University and 5th best university by graduate employability in Nigeria 

"I'm proud of each and every one of these fears and commend the university management led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof.Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello for the visionary and diligent leadership. A true breath of fresh air in university administration in Nigeria"he lauded 

The governor who equally appreciated the undergraduate students of the university for the laurels so far, assured the institution of commitment of his administration's continuous financial support, so as to sustain its world class status as university and create more conducive learning environment  for the students to excel in their various fields of human endeavour 

"Under my administration, the Lagos State Government is committed to empowering students in our state-owned tertiary institutions to unlock their full potential. We aim to foster a 
generation of innovative thinkers, problem-solvers, and great leaders, who will drive sustainable development in Lagos State and beyond".

"To this end, we recognize that sustaining a world-class university requires significant financial investment. As we seek to surpass previous achievements and maintain the upward trajectory of the University's growth hand  development, we will live upto all our responsibilities, as envisioned by the founding fathers, and in accordance with our T.H.E.M.E.S Plus strategic governance  agenda, which includes Education and Technology amongst its core pillars", he assured 

High point of the event included an  elevation of Prof.Martins Aghenuma Anatekhai as an Emeritus Professor of the university, decoration of Prof.Amidu Sanni as a Distinguished Professor of the institution as well as conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees on two eminent Nigerians , an Astitute politician, Prince (Hon.) Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi as recipient of Doctor of Literature (History, Education and Community Development and Outstanding industrialist ,Prince (Dr) Samuel Adedoyin who was decorated with Doctor of Humane Letters (Commerce, Industry and National Development) 




The governor was presented with awards by both university's management and Students Union Government for the commitment of his administration to the growth of the institution 

All the recipients assured the institution of their continuous commitment to the development of the university


The Vice-Chancellor had earlier appreciated the governor, staff and students for the sustenance of academic excellence in the university
