Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed concern over N11,000 minimum wage being received by staff at the Sikiru Adetona College of Education Science and Technology (SACOTECH), Omu-Ajose, Ijebu-Ode
Chairman of Ogun State Council of NLC, Comrade Hameed Benco-Ademola raised concern during the 2024 May Day celebration and rally at MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto Abeokuta, also appealed to the State Government to critically look into its tertiary institutions monthly subventions to empower them to provide quality service to the entire state
The NLC boss who described the minimum wage as ridiculous, stressed the need for Governor Dapo Abiodun to declare an action to address the enormous challenges facing the institution head-on to enable SACOTECH fullfil its statutory mandate of providing quality education and training to students who stand out among their peers in the country
He added that increasing monthly subventions to the State Government owned institutions including the Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun-Ijebu-Ode and Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta would sustain the state's rich tradition of producing quality scholars who had laurels across the globe
The union however appreciated the approval of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) to the Ogun State House of Assembly workers
"It is a fundamental right of workers which has improved the wellbeing of Legislative workers. This action has promoted the moral, enhancing productivity and upholding the dignity of all workers within the Ogun State Assembly", the union stated
Benco-Ademola assured the governor of the commitment of organized labour of ensuring harmonious working relationship by putting the "People First" in every thing, inline with the theme of this year's celebration
