Federal Government of Nigeria has been applauded by a Non-Governmental Organization, Ireede-Oginni Grassroots Foundation for its proposed restructuring plan of the National Youth Service Corps Scheme (NYSC), aimed at repositioning the scheme to create employment opportunities for young graduates and reduce the disturbing trend of job seekers in the country
Founder of the foundation, Chief (Hon.), Funmilayo Ireede-Oginni who gave the commendation in a statement on Wednesday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, also commended the government for earmarking N10 million to fund entrepreneurial ventures of 5,000 corps members within the scheme
The Minister of Youth Development, Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, had announced plans to begin reformation and restructuring of the National Youth Service Corps Scheme.
The Minister also stated that over 5,000 corps members will have their entrepreneurial ventures funded with about N10 million and that a team to spearhead the review, restructuring, and reformation would be inaugurated soon.
Bio-Ibrahim made the statement at the opening ceremony of the maiden meeting of NYSC management with heads of Corps-Producing Institutions in Nigeria, in Abuja on Monday.
The foundation in its reaction, strongly believed that the reform of NYSC would seriously address the increasing rate of unemployment among teeming youths and provide opportunities for young graduates to discover their huge potentials to create jobs and promote economic growth
The founder of Future Promise Group of Schools Abeokuta and Chief Executive Officer of Terra Integrated Services Limited, an emerging business conglomerate in the country, urged the government to ensure actualization of the proposed restructuring of NYSC in the interest of the country
Actualization of the reform according to the foundation, will put an end to youths seeking for unavailable white collar jobs in public service or multi-nationals companies
She restated the commitment of her foundation to continue to support educational pursuits of brilliant students from poor families through provision of scholarship awards and empowerment of less priviledged women, particularly in rural areas who are into various forms of trades
