MAPOLY Lecturers ,Mgt Meeting Ends In Deadlock..ASUP Gives Fresh Ultimatum Till Friday For Payment Of 35% Salary Increments, Others

The meeting between Academic Staff Union Of Polytechnics (ASUP) and management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, (MAPOLY) Abeokuta has ended in a deadlock, as both parties failed to reached agreement on any of the demands of the lecturers, including the full implementation of 35 and 25 percent salary increments for workers of the institution, as approved by the government.

The Institution's Branch Chairman of ASUP, Mr. Adegunle Tomisi in an interview with Edu-Biznews on Tuesday,  said that the union had given the management of the Polytechnic, a fresh ultimatum till the coming Friday, 10th of May, to meet all the demands of workers, threatening that the union will mobilize its members for resumption of the indefinite strike earlier suspended

ASUP had earlier issued a 7-day ultimatum to the institution's management to fully implement the 35 and 25 percent salary increments for workers of the institution which had already been approved by the government.

He added that the union decided to put on hold, the strike expected to take off on Tuesday, to give room for the meeting held on Monday which failed to achieve meaningful progress

The ASUP Chairman of the polytechnic, said that the communique was issued on Monday, April 29, in Abeokuta by the union after the failure of the management to respond to its demands

The communique was issued at end of the Union's Congress meeting of the association held on the campus of MAPOLY in, Abeokuta, the state capital.

He explained that the Union in session deliberated on issues of importance as they concern members of the association, and reviewed the responses of the Management to the legitimate demands of the Union arose from the resolution of the Congress held on 19th, March, 2024.

He noted that the Congress found the management's response unsatisfactory given their non-committal to and partial fulfilment of their demands by which the management refused to treat the career progression of staff with all the seriousness it deserves.

According to Tomisi, MAPOLY ASUP had demanded for domestication of the approved 35% and 25% salary increment for the staff of MAPOLY, payment of a minimum of four (4) Semesters out of the six (6) outstanding Semesters Part-Time claims/allowances.

"Immediate roll-out of APER forms of 2021/2022 for processing, immediately completion and release of 2020/2021 promotion letters and accompanying appointments, as well as immediately conclusion and release of the delayed Conversion, Upgrading and Regularisation list"

"Also, immidiate payment of arrears of earned allowances on the 2020 staff promotions and immediate conclusion of the 2019/2020 appointment exercise of the institution."

The Union in its resolution reiterated its objection to the Management's retrogressive staff career progression stance and requested the full implementation of promotion exercise of the MAPOLY

The Union directed the Management to immediately release its check-off dues and other deductions already made from staff monthly salaries, noting that it was disturbing the attempt by the management to tacitly undermine the potency of the Union by deliberately withholding its dues.
