No fewer than fourteen (14) teams will be competing for various prizes in the maiden edition of Olowu of Owu-Abeokuta, Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola under 15 male football tournament which kicks-off on the 2nd of June , 2024 in the Ogun State capital
The teams were given clearance to participate in the cadet competition among over 27 teams who took part in a screening exercise held recently at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, by the organizers
The tournament is being organized between the Olowu of Owu-Abeokuta in partnership with the Super Eagles'former tactician, Dutchman Bonfrere Joe, whose representative will be on ground to scout for talents during the grassroots competition and expose them to local and international competitions and possibly nurture them to fit into Golden Eaglets of Nigeria
Also the State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka who lauded the initiative of Olowu to catch them at the grassroots level , also pledged that scouts from the State owned second tier Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Gateway United Football Club would be available to scout for talents while coaches from the State Sports Council would be on ground to groom raw talents discovered at the tournament and camp them to represent the State in future
The opening ceremony of the competition will be featuring a 15-minute novelty matches between Balogun team and Royal Majesty team as well as Chiefs and bona-fide sons of Owu kingdom who will be displaying their skills in the round leather game
