Ogun Govt Urges Teachers To Embrace 21st Century Teaching Methods In Classrooms

Ogun State Government has stressed the need for teachers to integrate 21st century teaching methods in the classroom for better output of their pupils 

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu made the call  in Abeokuta, during a 2-day Pedagogy Training for the teachers and Technical Instructors of Government Science and Technical Colleges on 21st Century Classroom Methodology, organised by Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB), in collaboration with Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), saying the programme would upgrade the capacity of teachers for excellent performance.

He added that teachers needed to be empowered with teaching aids that would enable them to deliver and make learners comprehend the content of the teaching

"I congratulate the participants. I also appreciate the facilitators for helping the government to give teachers required knowledge that will make them excellent in the discharge of their duties", he said.

Also speaking, the Project Manager, Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), Mr. Fatai Osunsanya, assured that facilities in technical colleges would soon be upgraded with technological equipment, which invariable required training teachers on how best to handle modern technologies for productive achievements.

Earlier, the Acting Executive Secretary, OGSTVEB, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, noted that the training was put in place to make teachers in technical colleges, especially the newly recruited ones understand the rudiments of teaching that could help them become better teachers.

Speaking, one of the resource persons,  the Director, Centre for Improvement of Teaching and Learning, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State, Prof. Adekunle Bamiro, said participants as qualified teachers,  would be effective and efficient as classroom teachers, if they applied the process of studying the curriculum, evaluation, school management and teaching methods.

Appreciating the organisers on behalf of other participants, Mrs. Margaret Adeoye, admitted that the training had improved their knowledge and equipped them with skills to handle learners.
