Ogun Govt Insists On LIN As Pre-condition For School Candidates Enrollment For WASSCE, BECE

Ogun State Government has insisted on  

presentation of Learners Identification Number (LIN) by every student in school, before being allowed to enrol for the West-African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for the Junior Secondary terminal class in Ogun State.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, made the declaration during a meeting with the management team of the Ministry and executive members of Private Schools Associations in the state, disclosing that LIN would henceforth be given only to pupils enrolled into primary one classes at the point of entry.

Arigbabu stated that the purpose of the meeting was to ensure that Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA), has accurate data on learners and schools, to curb examination malpractices, indiscipline and other anomalies being perpetrated in the education sector.

He charged stakeholders both in public and private schools to ensure strict adherence to rules and regulations of the ministry, saying, "It is incumbent on all stakeholders to uphold the principle of transparency, integrity and compliance with education landscape".

          

Earlier, Director of Education, Planning Research and Statistics, Mr. Temitope Lasilo, explained that the meeting was to explore how OGSERA platform could be leveraged to optimise educational outcomes and strengthen partnership between government and the private sector.

In their separate remarks, President, National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Otunba Adekunle Osibeluwo and President, Grand Union of Private Schools Association, Ustaz Ajibola, applauded Dapo Abiodun-led administration on initiatives to standardise the education sector, pledging their continuous support and compliance with its policies and programmes.
