Judiciary Workers Suspend Indefinite Strike In Ogun

Judiciary workers on payroll of the Ogun State Government have been directed to resume work on Wednesday at various courts in the state, following the suspension of the indefinite strike by  leadership of the State Council of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) embarked upon over the non-payment of the 40percent peculiar allowance to members of the union by the State Government

The judiciary workers had on the 8th of April, 2024 commenced the indifinite industrial action which crippled activities at various courts within the jurisdiction of the State Judiciary arm of government

But the State Publicity Secretary of JUSUN, Comrade (Prince) Adenekan Adewale Abiodun announced the suspension of the over two weeks old strike on Tuesday in a notice to members on Tuesday made available to Edu-Biznews,after reaching agreements at a meeting held on Monday in Abeokuta which lasted for five  hours between top government functionaries including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) who presided over the issues discussed and members of organized labour

The meeting which started around evening hours of 5pm  had in attendance, National Officers of JUSUN, NLC State Chairman, Comrade Hameed Benco-Ademola, JNC State Chairman, Comrade Isa Olude,  and Ogun State JUSUN EXCO, agreed to involve the leadership of the union in the negotiation process that will lead to approval and implementation of the perculiar allowance for the judiciary workers

After much discussion on the matter, it was also agreed that JUSUN demand should be treated together with the full implementation of CONJUSS alongside the Minimum/Living wage negotiation and implementation expected to be announced by the Federal Government on 1st of May ,2024 while the actual payment for workers at the both Federal and State levels will begin between May and June , 2024

"It was equally agreed that JUSUN would be given a slot in the technical committee for the negotiation and implementation of the minimum wage in the State and this would give the Union an opportunity to effect the demand of the Union, full implementation of CONJUSS and other benefits"

"Also, the possibility of payment of areas will be discussed during the meeting of the minimum wage technical committee" the union stated in the notice

The leadership of the union appreciated the moral support of its members and efforts of the SSG for the meeting, assuring them of   continuous engagement with government to ensure implementation of the agreement

The union strongly believed the agreement reached was fair enough considering the realities of the current situation

"This is a very difficult moment for both the leadership and members of the Union, but we believe this is a fair agreement that will benefit the Union and its members in the long term"

"In view of the above, the National Officers and JUSUN leadership of Ogun State having reviewed the proceedings of the meeting decided to suspend the indefinite strike action and hereby directed *ALL OGUN STATE JUSUN MEMBERS TO RESUME WORK BY WEDNESDAY 24TH APRIL, 2024* while the Union will continue to engage the State Government towards the actualization of the Union demand", the union assured
