Management of Gateway United Football Club has frowned at the ugly incident involving some miscreants who assaulted the referee, following the goal less draw with the visiting, Ikorodu City of Lagos in a matchday 18 encounter in the second tier Nigeria National League (NNL) played on Saturday at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital
Media Officer of the club, Moses Ojewunmi, in a statement, said that the management regretted the conduct of
the miscreants which according to it , are unknown to the team
"We condemn such behavior in the strongest terms, and dissociate our Club from such irresponsible and calculated behavior targeted to undermine our long standing values and culture of discipline on and off the pitch. We want to state it clearly that such characters are unknown to us neither do we have shared values and principles", the club stated
"Information available to us indicated that miscreants behind the assault have been apprehended and handed over to the police."
The Club have equally shown keen interest in the ongoing Investigations to determine the circumstances and unravel shadow parties behind that ignoble actions, with full determination to prosecute all those who are found culpable.
"We want to again restate our commitment and respect to personal and collective dignity and honour of today's Match officials, while pledging our sustained loyalty to the League body, in their quest to make "this most important league" a league of pride", the team concluded in the statement
