The Olowu of Owu kingdom, Oba (Prof.) Saka Matemilola has assured members of Abeokuta Golf Club of full support to ensure sustenance of his Annual Coronation Golf Tournament, so as to further promote and develop game of golf across the State
The monarch gave the assurance when the Executive Cimmitter members of Abeokuta Gulf Club paid him a courtesy in his palace, Oke Ago-Owu, Abeokuta.
Oba Matemilola stated that the game of golf was one of the fastest means of wooing investors to develop the State and enhance its socio-economic growth.
He called on the members of the public to look beyond elitist part of the game, saying they are lots of opportunities embedded in the game apart from the social and business relationships which could be used to develop individual lifestyle.
His words "the game of golf goes beyond elitist view. It is a game that should be embraced by everybody and is a game for everybody. If caddies, artisans among other people from all walks of life can play it and enjoy the value of it, then itis for everybody. "
Earlier in his introductory remarks, the Club Captain Professor Kola Adebayo appreciated the Monarch for being part of the Club since he ascended the throne of his forefathers as Olowu of Owu kingdom.
The Captain noted that since the first Olowu Coronation Golf Tournament was held in Abeokuta Golf Club during the Kabiesi's installation, it has been marked in the Country golf calendar and the club want the tourney to continue as an annual event.
Membership of the club according to him, is open to any interested individual or corporate bodies, calling on everyone in Ogun State to rally round and support the club as part of strategy to promote the game of golf in the State
