Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Oludaisi Elemide has tasked the leadership of the State Council of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to continue to support government at all levels towards ensuring the delivery of people-driven policies and programmes that would ameliorate the present economic situation in the country.
Elemide gave the task on Tuesday while receiving the State Executive Council of NLC led by the State Vice-Chairman, Comrade Midian Nanle at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, during the day one of the two-day nationwide protest against the economic hardship in Nigeria, being organized by the union
The Speaker in company of his Deputy, Bolanle Ajayi, Honourables Damilare Bello and Lawal Samusideen, noted that the current economic situation required the support, understanding and perseverance of critical stakeholders including the labour unions who could help garner support of the people in addressing critical societal challenges.
He pleaded for the support of the congress in view of the present economic situation, positing that both the State and Federal Government were implementing policies and measures that would strengthen and ameliorate the impact of the current economic challenge.
The Speaker assured the congress of sustained mutual relationship in all its activities towards giving the best to the people.
Earlier in their remarks, Comrade Midian Nanle and the State Secretary, Comrade Roseline Solarin congratulated the new Speaker on his emergence, assuring that the leadership of the Congress in the State would continue to engage the House on meaningful initiatives that will benefit workers in the private and public sectors in the State.
They sought for more government's interventions in addressing the economic situation affecting Nigerians.
