Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its stance to fight the adulteration of Adire fabric in circulation and prevent the textile from going into extinction.
The State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi who stated this while featuring on a radio programme in Abeokuta, said the present administration in the state was passionate about the preservation of culture and traditions and would put in place various reorientation programmes at sensitising the public among other stakeholders on how best to promote the home-made textile material
“We have met with the Iyalojas of the Adire markets; the Alake is involved too and on the part of the government, we have put up strategies to sensitise the people", he said.
The Commissioner also disclosed that the Ministry was working towards acquiring an authentication seal for each of the fabric, adding that a policy to guide against adulterated Adire was already being put in place.
Fagbayi, who said government was committed to ensuring that cultural heritages and sites in the states were preserved and met international standards, revealed that the Ministry was embarking on assessment tours of all tourist sites, to assess their condition, assuring that road network leading to the various sites were upgraded and repaired for easy access.
He called on the National Executive Council as well as the state House of Assembly to join hands with government in promoting local Adire by prohibiting the adulterated one, popularly called, ‘Chinese Adire’ from the markets.
