Ogun Assembly Recovenes Peacefully, Asks Oluomo To Step Aside As Speaker

A new twist has been introduced to the impeachment of Olakunle Oluomo as speaker, as members of the house recovened peacefully on Monday and  asked him to step aside to respond to various allegations leveled against him by 18 of the lawmakers

The house at the plenary inside the assembly's complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, presided over by its Deputy Speaker , Hon. Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi, took the decision while deliberating  on the Oluomo’s  response to various allegations of lack of transparency in the management of the house finances , high- handedness amongst others

The members resolved  that Oluomo step aside as  the Speaker, pending the outcome of the report of the Adhoc Committee set up by the House at the plenary to look into the matter.

The membership of the Committee are: Hon. Musefiu Lamidi, representing Ado Odo/ Ota 2 State Constituency to serve as Chairman,Oluseun Adesanya as Vice Chairman, just as Honourables Babatunde Tella, Damilola Soneye, Lukman Adeleye, Fola Salami and Olusegun Odunuga would serve as members, while the Director of Legislative Service, Mr. Temtope Hokon would serve as Secretary.

18 of the 26-member house  had last week Tuesday passed the resolution for the impeachment of Oluomo from Ifo l Constituency as speaker and immediately replaced him with Hon. Oludaisi Elemide (Odeda Constituency) within the same Ogun Central Senatorial District

But the embattled speaker, Oluomo at a news conference on Friday, faulted his impeachment, insisting due process must be followed before such resolution of impeachment

This prompted the house to recovened peacefully and set up adhoc committee to look into the allegations leveled against him
