It Is All Over For PDP As Supreme Court Affirms Gov.Abiodun's Re-election In Ogun

The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Friday finally put to rest the legal battle for the governorship seat of Ogun State with affirmation of Governor Dapo Abiodun's re-election of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the last March 18, 2023 poll in the state 

Justice Tijjani Abubakar who read the unanimous judgment of a five-member panel of Justices of the apex court sitting in Abuja,  dismissed the case of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and  its candidate, Hon. Ladipo Adebutu for lacking merit 

Resolving the argument of Adebutu and his party over the need for fresh election in 99polling units where they alleged that the election were cancelled by INEC, the court dismissed the appeal in its entirety for being unmeritorious 

The court described documents tendered in support of the argument as 

worthless papers, lacking in evidential value for having no heading, no date and no signature and name of any official.

 

“I have carefully considered all the issues canvassed by the appellants, in the end, I found that this appeal is un-meritorious and ought to be dismissed, it is hereby dismissed,” Justice Abubakar submitted 

The five-member panel of Justices of the Court, led by John Inyang Okoro then affirmed the judgement of the Court of Appeal delivered in November last year and that of the Election Petition Tribunal which affirmed Abiodun as the validly elected governor of Ogun state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had, declared that Abiodun of the APC polled a total of 276,298 votes to defeat his closest rival, Adebutu of the PDP, who scored a total of 262,383 votes
