AFCON 2024: Eagles Fail To Fly Past Equatorial Guinea

Super Eagles started their campaign for the fourth title at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote D'Ivoire on unimpressive note, as they failed to fly past the less fancied Equatorial Guinea side who held them to a one-all draw in their Group A opener on Sunday

The Equatorial Guinea side took the surprise lead through Salvador in the 36th minute but Eagles responded quickly with an equalizer by top Striker Victor Osimhen in the 38th minute as both teams ended opening half with a goal apiece

The match saw Osimhen, Moses Simon and Ademola Lukemon failing to convert six clear chances created in both halves of the match played inside the magnificent Olympic Stadium in Ebimpe

The Coach Jose Paseiro tutored side are now facing an uphill task of beating the host, Elephants of Coted'Ivoire who had earlier defeated Guinea Bissau 2-0 in the opening match of the competition to lead the group with maximum three points while both  Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea are on a point each on the table

The Thursday match up with the  host Elephants, is a must win for the Eagles, if they must go past the group stage of the competition
