Ogun Govt Signs MOU With InterSwitch On Health Insurance Scheme

Ogun State Government has entered into partnership with Interswitch Limited, as part of strategic moves to revolutionize healthcare payment transactions under
the State Health Insurance Scheme Agency (OGSHIA)

The partnership also aim at facilitating the efficiency of health insurance transactions, streamling the processes and fostering financial inclusiveness.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, during the signing of a  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the organization in Abeokuta, the state capital, described the strategic alliance as a significant milestone in the state's health insurance journey, saying it would help expedite government's mission to provide qualitative and accessible healthcare to the people.

Coker explained that the solution offered by Interswitch would ensure that Health Insurance subscribers could effortlessly and securely settle payments for healthcare services, adding that it would eliminate economic barriers to healthcare.

"We know that as a nation and a state, the only sustainable way to fund health care is through Health Insurance. The journey started in earnest in 2022 and we are already counting our gains; but we have realised that seamless payment of premium is a necessity at this point, as this will encourage more people to come aboard our health insurance schemes. This underscores the essence of this partnership", she stated

"It is also important to note that this alliance would be beneficial to workers in the Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA) as well. By digitizing the process of collecting and reconciling premiums, we can engender efficiency in our process. I'm looking forward to rapid expansion in our insurance coverage. With that will come improved healthcare for the people because we will be able to fund the provision of infrastructure and equipment, as well as human resources", she added

The Commissioner expressed optimism that the partnership would soon yield fruitful rewards, assuring that the present administration would continue to work on ways to make its insurance schemes better for the good of all.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Kayode Oladehinde, assured that government would remain focus on enhancing the health and economic stability of residents through comprehensive and efficient healthcare insurance services, describing the partnership with Interswitch as a step in the right direction.

Speaking on the partnership, Vice-President, Government and Social Services Ecosystem, Interswitch, Osasere Atohengbe, said the organisation shared the state government's commitment to make healthcare accessible and affordable for residents.

He added that Interswitch's innovative multi-channel payments solution was poised to revolutionise health insurance transactions, which would contribute to OGSHIA's noble vision, assuring that the company would fulfil its part, as outlined in the MoU.
