Ogun State Government has voted N22.8 billion for upgrading of its stadia and other recreational facilities, in readiness for the hosting of the 22nd of National Sports Festival tagged "Gateway 2024
Governor Dapo Abiodun who revealed this while presenting the 2024 Budget, tagged, "Budget of Sustained Growth and Development", before the State House of Assembly in Oke-Mosan,Abeokuta, said that the amount represented three percent of the budget size .
Abiodun says his administration has prioritised the upgrading of sporting facilities in the various stadia over the past four years, saying by enhancing these venues, the current administration aims to create an environment that fosters excellence and enables athletes to train and prepare adequately for their respective sporting events, ahead of the sports fiesta
The State helmsman stated that the 2024 National Sports Festival would have a positive impact on the local economy, with an estimated 17,000 athletes and officials from across Nigeria attending the sporting fiesta.
He submitted that the upcoming Sports Festival would present a tremendous opportunity for the State to showcase and expose more of the sporting talents in and around the State.
"By continuing to invest in sports infrastructure and providing a platform for our athletes to excel, we are committed to nurturing talent and promoting sports development in Ogun State. We believe that our passion for sports will continue to unite and inspire our people while bringing honor and recognition to our great state", he said.
