Ogun Govt Rewards Best Graduating Students With Cash Prizes Of N2million Each

Three best graduating students of the Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State for the academic year of 2020/2021,2021/2022, and 2022/2023 have been rewarded with a cash prizes of Two million naira each for their exceptional academic feats 

 Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the cash prizes during the 13th,14th and 15th convocation ceremonies of the university.

Governor Abiodun at the convocation ceremonies also announced a sum of N500,000 for the best graduating students in each of the colleges for the three academic sessions 

 "In line with our tradition, I will be awarding a cash prize of Two million naira each to the overall best graduating student of the past three years. For the year 2020/2021, Sunday Oluwafemi with a GPA of 4:89, for the year 2021/2022, Obadina Patricia Elibe with GPA of 4:89, for the year 2022/2023, Mercy Deborah Sanyaolu with GPA 4:86," he stated.

"I will also be awarding the best graduating student in each of the colleges from the years 2020 to 2023 the sum of N 500,000 each", he said.

The State Governor also awarded a sum of N250,000 to a first-class student, Okewale Nelson, who despite taking advantage of the ingenious work-study programme of the institution was able to earn a first-class degree in mathematics.

Abiodun disclosed that the feat recorded by Okewale Nelson has shown that working while studying is not a deterrent to academic success, calling on other students to take advantage of the program and go the line of Nelson.

"I also understand that there is a first-class student, a mathematics student who was engaged in the very ingenious TASUED work-study program.

"Meaning that this young man was working in the university, while he was studying, this clearly underscores the fact that working while studying is not a deterrent to academic excellence.

‘’The student, Okewale Nelson is hereby awarded a cash prize of 250,000 Naira, it is my hope that other students are encouraged to take advantage of this very ingenious work-study program so that they can provide you with needed support whilst pursuing their academics," he said.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor of the Tai Solarin University of Education; Prof. Oluwole Banjo disclosed that students of the institution graduate with two certificates, one in course content and the other in a vocational discipline of their choice, added that the objective of the institution established in 2005 was to produce and equip its graduates with employable skills.

The Vice-Chancellor also noted that the 13th,14th and 15th combined convocation ceremony of the institution would see 12,700 students graduate from the institution, 329 graduated from the postgraduate college, adding that one hundred and thirteen students graduated with first-class degrees.
