Ogun Govt Improves Teaching In Secondary Schools With Computer Laptops

Ogun State Government is concluding plan to procure Computer Laptops for teachers across the State, as part of strategic moves  to improve teaching and learning and boost technological compliance among teachers in Public Secondary schools in Ogun State, 

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu  made this known in Abeokuta, during the 10th State Conference of the Computer Teachers Association of Nigeria (CTAN), Ogun State Chapter, tagged: "Enhancing Education Via Sustainable Technology: Engaging Stakeholders for Transformation", saying the step would enhance training and learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by learners.

The Commissioner pointed out that the Ministry would organise a Local Government-Based Competition for Secondary School students where the five Best from each Local Government would stand the chance of winning 100 Laptops and enrolling for computer proficiency training.

He urged computer teachers to support the government in its transformation policy, to enable the State to achieve more impact in the sector.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, described ICT as a key element of transformation and development, hence the need for the government at all levels to embrace it, enjoining the computer teachers to brace up for the technological challenges.

Earlier in his welcome address, the President, CTAN, Ogun State chapter, Comrade Temitope Emosu said the Association was committed to training and retraining teachers on the effective usage of technological tools to make them relevant globally, saying, ‘’a paradigm shift is drifting into education, teachers should ensure they are equal to the task in the acquisition of new skills and knowledge for better productivity’’.

In another development, Prof. Arigbabu advocated for religious tolerance in the education sector and the society at large, noting that individuals, religious associations and schools should avoid unnecessary issues that could disrupt peace and tranquillity in schools.

The Commissioner made this appeal while playing host to the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisation, (NACOMYO), Ogun State Chapter, led by the Coordinator, Alhaji Abdulbariu Lawal, adding that both Christian and Muslim teachers and learners should learn to accommodate one another in terms of policy-making.

Speaking, Alhaji Lawal lauded the government on the technological initiative, which he said had brought tremendous transformation to education across the State.
