Ogun State Emergency Management Agency (OGSEMA) has asked residents in the state, especially those in flood-prone areas to relocate to higher ground, in order to avoid being victims of possible flood disaster, following the prediction of excessive rainfall by Nigerian Meteorological Agency
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency had predicted 48 hours of rainfall over parts of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) and 24 States including Ogun starting from September 3 to October 7, 2023.
Director of the State Emergency Management Agency, Wale Sonde who issued the advisory in a statement made available to Edu-Biznews on Friday, listed the areas that are at risk in Abeokuta to include Amolasho, Ori-Omi, Ijeun-Titun, Arakanga, Olomore, while Ojumele, Kekere-Ifa, Eruwuru, were listed in Sagamu followed by areas such as Degun, Ikangba, Olorunsogo, Yemule, Ayesan, and others in Ijebu-Ode.
Sonde said the Agency had embarked on a critical assessment and appraisal of the flood-prone areas in the state to mitigate the likely effects of the flood
He advised residents of the flood-prone areas to desist from dumping refuse in drainages and go the extra mile in desilting drainages in their communities.
