Fidelis Henry Emerges Heavy Champion Of Ogun Hall Of Fame Boxing Tourney







Fidelis Henry on Saturday emerged heavy weight champion of the monthly Ogun Hall Of Fame Boxing Tournament, after knocking out his opponent, Aduragbemi Adegboro in the second round of the 86 kilograms bout

Fidelis was too hot for Aduragbemi to handle as he threw in the towel, forcing the umpire to stop the bout in the second round of the contest held inside indoor sport hall of the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital




In other bouts decided in this October edition of the boxing show, Uriel Ajayi defeated Aboy David by split decisions 4-1 in the 67 kilograms fight while Adebayo Adura beat Cole Oluwaseun in the 60 kilograms contest


Also Akinleye Quam defeated Saheed Odejide in the 52 kilograms category, Movei Frank beat Aliu Usman in the 54kilograme fight while Mubarak Bamidele won against Michael Olajuwon in the 49 kilograms contest

In the female category of the monthly boxing show, Aliyah Olalekan defeated Anu-Oluwapo Shoyombo in the 52 kilograms contest while Fathia Gafar beat Timilehin A. in the 50 kilograms fight 

Chairman of Ogun State Boxing Association, Mr. Somide Alao Christopher speaking during this Month Boxing Hall Of Fame tournament,  said that the tournament was being organized in conjunction with Boxing Hall Of Fame to expose raw talents discovered in the state  to competition 

The Chairman who is using the tournament to discover  talented boxers from secondary schools and tertiary institutions, assured young boxers of commitment of the association to their welfare to keep them in shape for more competitions 

"Today's show organized by Ogun State Hall of fame in conjunction with Ogun State Boxing Association  is a reality of the fact that we have talents in Ogun State. This day is to honor the achievements of our young individuals who have distinguished themselves in this field and also give them opportunity to showcase their raw talents to the world, said that the association was working on how to provide the needed support for talented young boxers ", he assured 

"Ogun State Association of Boxing is also working on providing support and sponsorship for our young talent in local and international outings which will definitely bring exposure and opportunities to our youths in this field", he added 

Somide who commended winners in various categories of the monthly Boxing Hall of Fame tournament, unfolded the plan of the association to scale up the boxing show in the state by introducing Boxing competitions in secondary schools to discover more talented young boxers 

"In the edition of this programme, the board commended the winners. Moving it a bit higher, the Board is upscaling this show and make it more educational by introducing Boxing competition in the secondary schools in Ogun State."

The State Boxing Association's Chairman solicited for the support of corporate organizations and individuals  in providing the needed equipments for boxing while pleading  with the boxers to always stay away from drugs to prevent destroying their future in the game 

"Sponsorship from Companies and individuals who can help in sponsoring tournaments, equipments etc has also being sought and still on-going by the Board. Meanwhile, I want to implore you to do away with drugs and other activities that can jeopardize your career.

"May I also charge you to prepare for the National Game Festival schedule to hold here in Ogun State come 2024"

"Finally, I want to thank the Sponsors and stakeholders of this programme for a job well done and equally congratulates all participants in this Ogun State hall of fame"

Also speaking Chairman of Ogun State Boxing Board of Control, Dr. Ademolu Okunleye assured that the board would continue to work hard to ensure the growth of boxing in the country, particularly in Ogun State by supporting the tournament
