Crescent University Installs Nigeria's Former President's Chief Of Staff As Chancellor , Honours Three Others With Doctorate Degree




Crescent University Abeokuta, Ogun State has installed Prof.Ibrahim Gambari who was Chief of Staff to Nigeria's former president, Mohammadu Buhari as its new Chancellor, just as the institution honoured three other distinguished Nigerians, Oba Moshood Ola Yusuf , Mr.Yakubu Layi Gobir and Dr. Babatunde Wale-Okewale with Doctorate Degrees in appreciation of their respective outstanding contributions to the country 


Proprietor and Chairman, Board of Trustees of the university, Prince Muhammed Ma'ruf Adesegun Ajibola
(SAN) during 15th Convocation of the institution and the formal installation of the  new Chancellor held on Saturday, described him as a revered academic, frontline diplomat,  statesman  and most suitable person to replace the former Chancellor, the late Alaafin of Oyo , Oba Lamidi Adeyemi 

He assured that Crescent University under his leadership would continue to live up to expectations and prayers of its founding the late father, by consolidating the gains of the past while exploring new areas for improvement or staff and students' welfare and structural development


The Board of Trustees Chairman promised that deliberate actions would be taken to improve the hostels, classrooms, auditorium,other amenities and learning facilities

The Chancellor , Prof. Ibrahim Gambari in his response was grateful to the Chairman of Board of Trustees, Pro-Chancellor and management of the university for the rare opportunity given to him to serve the institution, promising to contribute his quota to the contineous development of the university 


"Today is a red letter day for not only Crescent University Abeokuta but also for me as the new chancellor of this noble institution which has proudly produced captains of industry in its eighteenth year of existence. I am indeed very grateful to the Proprietor/Chairman Board of Trustees, the Pro-Chancellor and the management of this university for availing me the privilege to serve and contribute my quota".

He lauded huge amount of financial resources invested by the late Judge of the International Court of Justice, Prince Bola Ajibola into the transformation of the university 

The Chancellor who congratulated the graduands and the three awardees of Doctorate Degrees, commended the university for ensuring that the only those found worthy in character and learning earned its degree certificates 

"From my findings, this university was established to fly on two wings of "learning and character" since learning alone is not enough to better the society from its rots. Learning without character is the bane of our society while character makes learning complete and beneficial to humanity"


"This has been exemplified in the best of mankind, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) by the Almighty Allah describing him as the best in character (Quran 68:4). The prophet was neither praised for his knowledge nor wealth but character. This makes Crescent University, a university for the present and the future as it continues to mould the character of our youth. It is remarkable that this is a platform upon which this noble institution wast built", he stated

Gambari added that the graduands and their predecessors were lucky to have benefited from ocean of academic and moral excellence of the university, recalling the academic exploit of some of  the products who distinguished themselves in postgraduate programmes in the universities based in the United Kingdom 

"I must emphasize here that today's graduands and their predecessors are lucky to have sipped from the ocean of Academic and Moral Excellence provided by this prestigious institution.I am really proud to be associated with this"

"Most recently, one of our past best graduating students, Halima Abdusalaam who finished from the Department of Biochemistry received a letter of commendation from Nottingham University, UK, for her superlative performance in both academics and character during her Master's degree programme in Bioinformatics. This testimonial vividly is a reflection of *Academic Plus* Halima had received here in Crescent University.

"Another alumnus, Lukman Oloyede, who finished with a first class at Crescent University has now been made a brand ambassador of University Strathclyde, Scotland plus scholarship for his Master's in Media and Communications tagged *Dean's International Excellence Award".

"These and other gratifying success stories about the university point to the fact that Crescent University Abeokuta is a project of the Omnipotent Almighty Allah. Insha Allah, I will commit myself to further development and upliftment of this project in my capacity as the chancellor. I have dedicated my life to the services of the Almighty Allah and humanity. This is one of those services", he promised 

Similarly the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Gbajabiamila described  the knowledge acquired by the graduands in the university as invaluable gift that should always be part of them , urging the graduands to be ready to confront challenges that might come their way in future


The Vice- Chancellor admitting them in the community of Crescent University Alumni expressed confidence that products of the institution have continued to excell in both the market place and academia in the country 

"Our graduands are doing well in the wider marketplace and academia in Nigeria and overseas. They are not only getting top-notch jobs but also entrepreneurs and giving back to society. We  proudly invite you to be joining the Community of Crescent University Alumni ", he stated


He vowed that the university would never compromise quality, assuring that priority will always be given to quality of academic programmes to ensure their full accreditation 

The Vice-Chancellor appealed to public spirited individuals, philanthropists and organizations to join the valued league of benefactors by contributing generously to the endowment fund for the further development of the university




High point of the convocation was  the conferment of first and post graduate degrees on class 2023 graduands as well as honorary Degree of  Doctor of Accounting conferred on Oba Moshood Ola Yusuf, an accomplished Chartered Accountant and Philanthropist in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the fields of accounting, education and humanitarianism , alongside Mr. Yakubu Gobir , successful pharmacist and an accomplished businessman who was honoured with Doctor of Science in Health Science while Dr.Babatunde Wale-Okewale was equally appreciated for his contributions to the reproductive health in the country with , conferment of Doctor of Science, Health Science on him.



Oba Moshood Ola Yusuf on behalf of the awardees pledged their respective commitment to sustenance of the tradition of moral and academia excellence as well as development of Crescent University  


Rukayat Opeoluwa Shekoni of Economics and Actuarial Sciences Department, College of Arts, Social and Management Sciences emerged as overall best graduating student 




Prominent among the post graduate school Graduands are former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Suraj Adekunbi who was awarded with Master of Science (MSC in Business Administration as well as former General Manager of NTA Abeokuta, Mrs Olufunmilayo Wakama and  Gafar Adeleye a media aide to Ogun State Assembly Speaker who both bagged Master of Science (MSC In Mass Communication)
