Ogun Planning Permit Authority Seeks Traditional Rulers’ Support On ‘Build Right Policy

Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority has asked traditional rulers in the state to the support the "Build Right’" policy of the State Government, towards influencing proper planning and building of houses in the various communities.

The Acting General Manager of  the.agency , Town Planner  Idowu James made the  call.at the monthly Oba-in-Council meeting held at the Palace of the Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Ago-Iwoye.

He said  obtaining proper title documents for lands before building was essential, to engender the development of a safe, functional, and serene urban community.

According to him,“Building plan is not just for today, it is for the future of our communities. A properly planned area will earmark land for future development, in case government or private bodies want to cite social amenities like hospitals, recreational centers, schools, and even police stations’’.

He decried the practice of building developments that used the whole area of the owner’s land without obeying the statutory regulation of 6-meter setback to the front, 3-meter airspaces by the sides, or leaving room for drainages, saying those regulations were for the protection and sustainability of the properties and should thus be adhered to.

In his response, the Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Oba Abdulrasaq Adenugba, appreciated the initiative of the Authority in seeking ways to improve the value of the communities in the State, noting that the Oba-in-Council meeting had in attendance all the leaders of the Community Development Areas (CDAs) and Community Development Councils (CDCs) in Ago-Iwoye township, as well as the Security Chiefs, Baales, Olorituns and other leaders in the community, and as such, served as the fastest and most effective channel to influence the change desired.

“I appreciate the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who has deemed it fit to structure my domain to a standard environment that can accommodate many investments set up from within Nigeria and the diaspora. A community which is not well-planned cannot take full advantage of advances in technology such as smart location, while inadequate planning could lead to incidences of building collapse, which is detrimental to the lives and security of any society.

“Get all the necessary building documentations and authorisations required by government before commencing any building development”, Oba Adenugba charged.

In his remark, the Chairman, Obada CDA, Prince Adelaja Adewale, who spoke on behalf of the Oba-in-Council, lauded the agency for the sensitisation, saying abiding by the government’s regulations would reduce incidences of conflict between neighbours and property owners, advising the people to take advantage of the nearness of the Zonal Town Planning Office for necessary inquiry.
