Ogun Govt To Begin Construction, Rehabilitation Of Basic Schools

          

A total of 360 schools are to be constructed or rehabilitated across the three Senatorial Districts of Ogun State, to create a conducive learning environment for teaching and learning preparatory to beginning of the new 2023/2024 academic session 

Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Femi Majekodunmi who disclosed this during an interview with newsmen in Abeokuta, said that the projects would executed through the 2018-2019 Intervention Project Fund, made available by the State and Federal Government

He added that the projects would be completed within three months.

Majekodunmi  said the shortlisted contractors have received letters of Award of Contract to embark on the projects, adding that the project would cover the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms, toilet facilities, borehole installations, supply of furniture and e-library materials, among other crucial components.

        

He urged the contractors to uphold the highest standards of specifications outlined in their Bill of Quantity, stressing the importance of ensuring the safety of the learners who would benefit from the projects across the State, warning that Ogun SUBEB would not tolerate substandard work.

          

According to him, ‘’before the present administration came on board, the infrastructural facilities in many of the public schools were dilapidated, pupils and teachers’ furniture were virtually not available, and this necessitated the construction and rehabilitation of additional classrooms to improve the standard of education in both public primary and junior secondary schools in the State’’.

         

The SUBEB boss noted that the present administration was committed to repositioning basic education in the State in line with the functional, accessible and technology-driven education policy of the government, adding that the Board was working relentlessly to deliver its core mandate in the education sector.

         

The Chairman affirmed that the State government had ensured payment of monthly running costs to 1,566 schools for smooth administrations, saying the State recorded great achievement in training and re-training of Basic Education Teachers, Headteachers and Education Officers and procurement of five buses for effective monitoring in the Local Government Education Authorities.
