The disturbing trend of land grabbing cases in Ogun State continues unabated, with fresh alarm raised by Adeleke Kalejaiye family whose "Palm Trees Plantation located in Ogere-Remo near Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has been invaded by Suspected Landgrabbers
The family since the alleged invasion of the farmland last 18th of July, 2023, has written series of petitions dated 11th of September, 2023 to the Offices of The Ogun State Director General, Bureau of Land and Survey as well as that of the Inspector General of Police and State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to seek the urgent intervention of Governor Dapo Abiodun's administration and security agencies through its lawyer, Mr Isaac Bankole of Isaac T.Bankole and Co Chamber of which copies were made available to Edu-Biznews on Monday
The family who claimed that no response received so far from any of the petitioned quarters , accused one Prince Adesegun Ogunkoya in company of Mr.Tiamiyu Tomori and Prince Fadeyi Yusuf of leading some men in military uniform to invade the over 11 hectares of plantation where they drove away workers numbering 50 who earn their daily income from palm oil being produced from the plantation in the past 18 years
Counsel to the family in the petition, alleged that suspects vandalized the farmland using caterpillar to destroy economic activities on the farmland
"About two months ago while our client's workmen were sent to the farm to do some cultivation, to the surprise of our client's men , they found that a caterpillar has been brought into the farmland and had palm trees uprooted and their things on the farm vandalized" , he stated
"When the workmen reported to our client on what they have discovered on the farmland, an investigation was conducted wherein the findings showed that the people who brought the caterpillar came with some men in military uniform and drove away people found in the surroundings and adjoining land before they began the vandalization",he added
The family in the petition alleged that officers at the Divisional Police Station at Ogere-Remo in Ikenne Local Government Area refused blantly to entertain the complaint when the matter was reported to them
The police according to the petition, claim it can't dabble into land matters, even with the damage done to the Palm Trees planted by the family
The Adeleke Kalejaiye family in the petition presented its Certificate of Occupancy issued by the State Government in 2013 with number 0035031 registered as Number 2, page 2 volume 792 at the Lands Registry , Abeokuta for the purpose of producing palm oil in commercial quantity, after the purchase of the 11.273 hectares of land in January, 1978 from natives of Ogere-Remo identified as Mr. Adegbuyi Osho, Madam Towuro Efunfinwa , Madam Afuwape Solanke as well as Mr Emmanuel Orekoya and Mr Deinde Ogunnoiki
It will be recalled that the State House of Assembly had sought for the intervention of IGP to curb the essences of some of the police accused of conniving with suspected Landgrabbers to forcefully take possession of landed property belonging to individuals in the state
The house is also strongly considering establishment of Special Tribunal to hand increasing cases of land grabbing in the state in the ongoing review of the State Anti-Land grabbing Law
