Fresh graduates produced by the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta,
( FUNAAB) in Ogun State, have been charged to make themselves Job-Providers rather than job seekers, by utilizing knowledge acquired to create business opportunities for others to drive Nigeria's economy
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Olusola Babatunde Kehinde gave the charge on Friday during the 30th convocation ceremony held inside Prof.Olufemi Balogun Ceremonial Hall on the Alabata main campus of the institution, where two thousand, eight hundred and twenty-three (2,823) graduands graduated with various grades of first degrees
"You should also reflect on the knowledge acquired during your years in FUNAAB and transform yourselves to Job-Providers rather than job seekers. Go ahead and create innovations and make reforms that conform with the peace and progress of our society ", he charged
The Vice-Chancellor who lauded the spirit of resilience and determination during period of their studies in the university, urged the graduands to mould a generation of youths that would make the world better than the present situation
According to him, "a total of 118 graduated with First Class Honours Degree,1,094 in the Second Class Upper Division, 1,397 in the Second Class Lower Division, while 188 had Third Class.The remaining 26 graduands earned the Veterinary Medicine Degree, which is not categorized"
He however pleaded with parents and guardians not to mount unnecessary pressure on the graduands to start feeding for themselves when they are just starting their career in a very tough economy
The convocation continues this Saturday with the award of higher degrees including 16 Post Graduate Diploma , 215 Master's Degrees and 113 PhD in various fields
