Labour Threathens Total Nation-wide Strike Over Fresh Plan To Further Hike Pump Price Of Petrol

The Organised Labour has strongly warned against any plan to further hike pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, other wise known as Petrol from the existing price N617 per liter of the product which most Nigerians are still battling to cope with in the nation's economy

President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero vowed to proceed with a total, comprehensive and indefinite nationwide shutdown of the country, should there be another increase in Petrol Pump price from the existing 617 naira, describing the plan as "illegal"

Ajero who was speaking on Monday
at the African Trade Union alliance meeting in Abuja, said that no
notification would be given to government before embarking on the industrial action which will be total this time around, warning against undermining the demands of the union.

Edu-Biznews recalled that oil marketers had on Sunday announced the plan to further hike pump price of petrol  to between N680/lite and N720/litre in the coming weeks should the dollar continue to trade from N910 to N950 at the parallel market.

Labour however urged  oil dealers seeking to import PMS to put the plans hike  on hold for government to address the issue of scarcity of foreign exchange to import the commodity.

The organised labour had early suspended a proposed indefinite strike on Thursday, August 4, 2023, following a meeting with the President, Bola Tinubu.

Meanwhile efforts are being made by Central Bank of Nigeria to flood foreign exchange market with Dollar to stabilize the depreciating value of Naira in the parallel market
