The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of candidates who sat for the 2023 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) from public seconday schools in eight states
Head of Nigeria Office of WAEC in Lagos, Patrick Areghan who revealed this on Monday while announcing the results of the examinations at a media briefing, listed Zamfara and Niger as most indebted states owing the council close to N2billion but failed to mention the other six states
He called on the affected State Governments to show more commitment in funding education, particularly payment of WASSCE fees of their respective candidates to avoid embarrassment of non-released of the results to schools
Areghan who will be ending his tenure as Head of Nigeria Office of WAEC in October, asked candidates to use their result checker card to check their results on website of the examinations council
He also assured the candidates of availability of their certificate via WAEC digital platform
Detail of breakdown of performances recorded by candidates who sat for the examinations will be published subsequently
