Aminat International College Abeokuta, Ogun State celebrated its top three graduands who recorded very impressive results at the 2023 Unified Tertiary Institutions Matriculation Examination (UTME) , to sustain the school's rating as some of the best secondary schools with high academic performance in Nigeria
The top three graduands honoured during the college's 18th Valedictory service held on Sunday at its premises located at Osara Road Gbonagun, Obantoko area in Odeda Local Government Area of the State, included Aliyah Olasubomi Shobande-Kuti (334), Bazeet Ajadi, the Head Boy for 2022/2023 set (329) and Heeman Temitope Kareem, the Head Girl for the set (304)
A breakdown of the graduands' results in the examination conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) showed that Aliyah scored 72 in English, 83 in Physics, 81 in Biology and 98 in Chemistry, Bazeet scored 56 in English, 95 in Physics,79 in Biology and 99 in Chemistry while Heeman scored 71 in English,81 in Physics, 77 in Biology and 75 in Chemistry
The trio also finished as the overall best graduands with Heeman Kareem finishing in top position with A1 in nine subjects and B2 in a subject ahead of Aliyah Shobande-Kuti who recorded A1 in nine subjects and B3 in a subject while Bazeet Ajadi completed the top three best performance, recording A1 in eight subjects and C4 in a subject
Similarly in the Junior Secondary graduating set for the academic session twins brother, Abdul-Raheem Adebowale and Abdul-Rahman Adebowale also emerged as overall best, finishing in first and second positions with 88.32 points and 87.74 points respectively while Risqot Adebakin with 82 points finished in the third position
Principal of the college, Alhaji Mikail Anifowose was full of praises for the academic feats recorded by the 2022/2023 set of graduands' in UTME and various academic competitions where AICA distinguished it self as a very strong force to recogn with among other secondary schools in the country

"Over the years, AICA has built a solid reputation which has grown far beyond its immediate environment, our students at different competitions performed wonderfully well,e.g debate on drug abuse organized by N.U.D Society of Nigeria Women's Wing , 2023, Engineering Week Science Quiz competition organized by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Abeokuta branch, Talents Hunt Programme organized by the National Gallery of Art, Abeokuta ", Anifowose recalled
The Principal however attributed the various academic successes recorded during the 2022/2023 session to the dedication of professionally trained teaching staff who instilled sound moral Value in the students and implemented the educational policies of the college aimed at sustaining the spirit of hardwork, efficiency, honesty, zeal and productivity in each of the students
He also appreciated the support of the representative of the Proprietor of the college and management committee of the school led by Alhaji (Imam) Abdur-Razzaq Abdul-Azeez and the Parents Teachers Association of the school under the leadership of Alhaji (Engineer) Abdullahi Baba Tahir and the entire staff of AICA while acknowledging the effort of Alhaji ( Chief) Kazeem Adekunle Afolabi who is the Oppetu of Gbonagan Land for the full scholarship award
offered to the best Junior School graduand Roqeebah Adeyemi during last year's Valedictory service
Guest Lecturer, Dr.AbdulGaniy Ahmad delivering the Valedictory lecture titled "The Quest For Reformation And The Current Hardship In Nigeria,: Quality Education As A Way Out (Panacea), stressed the need for reform in the education sector, through review of academic curriculum at all levels to inculcate moral values in the training of generation of Nigerians, to address the challenges of inadequate infrastructure and multiple of problems confronting the economy caused by high level of corruption in the country
Ahmad who teaches at the Department of Islamic Studies, Federal College of Education, Abeokuta also called for massive recruitment of qualified teachers in primary and secondary schools, saying Nigeria according to series of researches conducted revealed that the country needs over 175,000 qualified teachers to address the issue of acute shortage of teachers in public schools
"Nigeria is in dire need of reformation to salvage it from the bad condition and total collapse. The two major steps taken by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration by removing fuel subsidy and floating of Naira with a view to taking our economic back to normalcy from corrupt elements in the country is a welcome development. However, I am sceptic about the success of the policies without paying adequate attention to quality education by all the stakeholders vis: the parents,the learners, teachers and the government at all levels . This is because quality education is globally recognized and accepted as most effective power or instrument to engender social changes and desired reformation "he stated
The Guest Lecturer insisted that government must give priority to qualitative education, by increasing budgetary allocation to the sector, strengthening all anti graft agencies and reviewing educational curriculum to reflect the needs of Nigeria as a country while parents despite the current economic hardship must not compromise giving their children qualitative education, so as to engender ideal society
The event was spiced up presentation of prizes to outstanding graduands and presentation of cash prize to outstanding staff
Chairman of the occasion, Hon.Olanrewaju Majekodunmi , a commissioner one at the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission , enjoined the graduands to sustain the school's tradition of honesty and academic excellence
He also commended the management of Aminat International College Abeokuta for sustaining the tradition of high moral values inline with Islamic principles
The school's best graduating graduand, Herman Kareem in her valedictorian speech was full of praises for the soul of , the proprietor, Late Alhaji (Chief) S.A Yusuff represented by Alhaji Sheriff Yusuff for the establishment of the college which had inculcated high moral values in them while appreciating the efforts of teachers for moulding them to be the best among other schools
Herman who enjoined her fellow graduands not to compromise their beliefs as Muslims in the face of temptation posed by the society, stressed the need for her colleagues to sustain the school's tradition of spirit of honesty and academic excellence
"We should not engage in acts that would lower our self esteem because we are Muslims" she cautioned
She lauded the efforts of parents of the graduands for their sacrifices and encouragement which contributed greatly to the academic recorded through out their six years stay in the college
A total of 54 Senior Secondary students and 56 Junior Secondary students participated in this year's Valedictory Service organized by the college's management
