Leadership of the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) says it will this Monday shutdown Oke-Mosan Secretariat of Ogun State Government in Abeokuta and Benin-Ore Expressway in protest against continous detention of some arrested students of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode for the alleged killing of a 300level student which led to the recent bloody clash between host community and students and subsequent burning of the palace, houses and eventual closure of the Institution by the management
NANS issued the notification of protest on Sunday in a statement made available to Edu-biznews and jointly signed by JCC/Ogun Axis Chairman,Comrade Damilola Kehinde, NAOSS National President,
Comrade Ogunrombi Gbemileke,
NANS National PRO, Comrade Giwa Yisa, Deputy Senate President,
NANS National, Comrade Elvis Ekundina, National President, Progressive Students Movement,
Comrade Bestman Okereafor, and Deputy Director of Campus Intervention, NANS National
Comrade Kehinde Thomas.
as well as Chairman, National Association of University Students, Ogun CMC,Comrade Wasiu Lawal
The apex students body stated that there was no other option left than the street protest after consultation with all relevant stakeholders
"Having exhausted all other means of peaceful resolution to no avail, we're now under constraint to take to the streets to further press our demands"
"Despite several consultations and consolidations, none of the assailants have been arrested and our innocent students still remain incarcerated up till now," the association lamented
NAN declared that the highway and Oke-Mosan road leading
to the State Secretariat would remain shut until all it's demands are met
The demands of the association includes, immediate release of the Students saying that were unjustly arrested.
NANS is also demanding for the immediate arrest and onward prosecution of the Baale and his terror squad whom it accused of involvement in the killing of the student, dismissing the claim of cult related killing
"That the Baale be relinquished of his post of Baale of imaweje with immediate effect", the association insisted
Other demands of NANS include
the immediate redeployment of the DPO of Omu or his withdrawal from the case.
The association is also calling on the State Government to send a delegation on condolence visit to the family of the deceased.
"Ogun State Government should provide financial compensation to the family of the deceased and also provide immediate employment for a relative as the boy was killed by one of the Baale under the state Government", NAN$
"The Government should set up a committee or Board through the Office of the SA Students that will look into peaceful coexistence between students and host communities in order to avert future reoccurrence", the association stated
"The Government through the school should compensate all students that were unjustly arrested as their stay in custody would have caused them lots of discomfort", NANS demanded
On the solidarity protest , NANS said all its presidents in South West and all NANS National, NANS Leaders, Cadres and Stakeholders & All affiliate bodies.
