Accountants in the Ogun State Civil Service have been tasked to report workers who abscond from office but still collecting salaries, as well as other leakages, in order to move the State forward.
The State Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, who gave the charge during a meeting with Accountants in the Civil/Public Service from Grade Levels 13 and above, held at the Obas' Conference Hall, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, urged them to know their responsibilities, saying they must be punctual and be up and doing.
Fagbohun further tasked them to do everything in their power to protect the Civil Service and master their jobs with integrity, calling on them to form the habit of reading Public Service Rules and other books pertaining to their job in order to steer clear of trouble.
"If you know those who have not been coming to the office and still collecting salaries, expose them, don't keep quiet. Let us work together to lift Ogun State to a higher place it belongs. Also, let us read Public Service Rules, and books pertaining to our jobs to steer clear of trouble. For Civil Service to thrive, Accountants and every officer must be up and doing, know your responsibilities and do what is right always", the HoS said.
Earlier in his opening address, the Accountant-General, and Permanent Secretary, State Treasury, Mr. Babatunde Aregbesola said the meeting was to discuss the issues affecting Civil Service and forge a way forward, calling on them to be more professional in their dealings and help the system grow better.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr. Adesina Towolawi, advised the Accountants to be more active by working with other revenue-generating agencies to bring in more revenue and comply with the cashless policy of the Government by using necessary machines and platforms.
On his part, the Chairman, Accountants' Forum, Mr. Usman Ojelabi, represented by Vice Chairman 1, Mrs. Arinola Adetayo said accountability and transparency would be their watchwords, and promised unflinching support to the Head of Service to have a successful tenure.
Issues on leave of absence, upgrading, and stoppage of salary of deceased Civil Servants/pensioners, among others were discussed at the meeting.
Responding on behalf of her colleagues, Mrs. Oluyemi Oloyede appreciated the Head of Service for the meeting and pledged to put more effort to take the Public Service to an enviable pedestal.
Meanwhile, the Head of Service received in his office, members of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria led by the South- West Coordinator, Comrade Olanrewaju Folorunsho who came to felicitate him on his appointment.
