Ogun Education Commissioner Gets Peak Performer’s Award




Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has been awarded a Peak Performer’s Award for transforming the education sector in the State through technological innovation.

Arigbabu received the award at the 8th 2023 Annual Conference of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), Ogun State Chapter, tagged; "The Role of Mathematics in Politics: Solution to Socio-economic Problem" held at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye.

Speaking, the outgoing Chairman of the Association, Mrs. Adeola Igbokoyi said the award was a note of appreciation for the immense contributions of the Commissioner to the effectiveness of teaching and learning of mathematics in schools across the State. 

 She said the appointment of Prof. Arigbabu had earned the State numerous awards in different mathematics competitions, adding that the intervention of Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration made learners show more interest in the subject.

 In his address, the Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the present administration to teachers' welfare, which had enhanced productivity, noting that education was the major parameter to measure the success of any Governor in a State.

Arigbabu lauded the collaboration of Mathematics Association of Nigeria (MAN), Science Teachers Association of Nigeria, (STAN), Computer Teachers Association of Nigeria, (CTAN) and many more, towards the development of mathematics, resulting in a better attitude of learners in the teaching and learning of the subject, praying for a successful tenure for the newly elected Chairman, Dr. Temitope Ajani.

 He said, "the excellent performance of Ogun State contingents at the last Olympiad and Junior Engineering Technicians (JET) competitions nationally and internationally is a testimony of the huge investment of the present administration in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education".

Speaking, the Chairman, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Evang. Olalekan Ifede, represented by the Principal-General of Ijebu division, Mrs. Adeyemi Olaitan and the Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, represented by the Director School Services, Mrs. Kehinde Anifowose, applauded MAN for providing enabling platforms for capacity building of teachers to update their knowledge to function effectively in the 21st Century.

In their goodwill messages, the National President of MAN, Prof. Kamoru Usman, the Vice Chancellor, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Prof. Johnson Agboola, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Admin.), Prof. Olufemi Adekoya and the representative of All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Mr. Femi Oyedele, enjoined the participants to maximise the opportunity of the conference to upgrade themselves, saying the standard of education largely depends on the quality of teachers.
