NBTE Okays Vocational Training In Ogun Schools Of Nursing

National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the regulators of polytechnic and monothechnic education in Nigeria has expressed satisfaction with the standard of vocational training being offered by the Ogun State Government's three Schools of Nursing and Midwifery in Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode and Ilaro

The Director, Monotechnic Division of NBTE and the leader of the team, Alhaji Samaila Tanko expressed the satisfaction during the team's visit to the office of Deputy Governor at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta after inspection of facilities and programmes at the three Schools of Nursing 

He explained that the visit to the State was based on the new Federal Government’s circular, which stated that only national certificate would be used for employment and procreation in the Public Service. 

Tanko added that the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria also issued a circular that all nursing colleges in the country offering vocational training should ensure that their students obtain national diploma training, with 2023 as the deadline.

According to him, ‘’we are happy for your interest in training and aligning into NBTE regulatory functions and we also want to thank the State Government for the support given to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the State, particularly at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, the three ICT polytechnics and college of health sciences’’.

    

 The Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele in her response, said that the Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration would continue to improve the health sector and prioritise staff welfare, with a view to bringing healthcare delivery to the doorstep of every citizen.

She pointed out that the present administration had invested a lot in the health sector, especially in infrastructure, provision of healthcare facilities, workers’ training and welfare, adding that the government was mindful of NBTE standards and requirements.

"The State government has scaled up the three schools of nursing and midwifery to standard, as well as changed the phase of nursing education in the State,"Salako-Oyedele added

The government is also committed to improving the well-being of nurses and midwifery with other various interventions to make our people feel at home whenever they visit our healthcare facilities".

The Deputy Governor noted that nurses were the backbone of every health facility, emphasising the need to always deploy qualified nurses to health facilities across the State. 

 In her words, the immediate past State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, said the State government had procured equipment to enhance service delivery, upgrading of health colleges and enhancement of nurse’s well-being.
