Covid-19: Ogun NLC Takes Campaign For Testing, Vaccination To Companies, Motor Parks




Ogun State Counçil of the Nigeria Labour Congress has started its fresh massive sensitization campaign on the importance of testing and vaccination to further strengthen the fight against the spread of Covid-19 pandemic and prepare for future emergencies 

The NLC State Coordinator for Covid-19 Response Mechanism Project, Comrade Abiodun Philip addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Abeokuta, said trained Peer influencers would be visiting workers between this Wednesday and Thursday at various companies as well as commercial drivers and other Nigerians at motor parks in Abeokuta and other parts of the state, to mobilize them for testing and vaccination against Covid-19


Also the State Chairman of NLC , Comrade Hameed Benco-Ademola while flagging-off the Sensitization and Social Mobilization for Uptake of Covid-19 Testing and Vaccination at its Secretariat in Abeokuta, stressed the need for people to take responsibilities for their health status by going for the test and vaccination to protect themselves, their families and communities, saying Coronavirus is real 




The State NLC boss who expressed
satisfaction with the efforts made so far by those in charge of the project in mobilizing people for the testing and vaccination in the past two years, pleaded with Nigerians to give the Peer influencers the needed audience when they visit them at their offices and motor parks

Similarly, the State NLC Coordinator for Covid-19 , called on employers of labour to take measures to minimize the risk of transmission of the disease among workers, visitors , contractors and all those involved in business with work place by ensuring that there was proper hygiene in work place





"The State Governments have the intrinsic power to regulate the public health, safety and welfare of their people . It is in light of this that we are calling on all the state governments not abdicate their responsibilities of ensuring that people in their domain are mobilized to go for testing and also get vaccinated against Covid-19,"Philip urged

He expressed confidence that the project "Social Mobilization for the Uptake of Covid-19 Testing and Vaccination In Workplace," being supervised by the National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA) would certainly prepare the NLC and workers to be in good position to address future emergencies such as Covid-19 

Philip added that the NLC was using the project  as a veritable leverage to put itself in a very good position to test run its  preparedness on how to manage future emergencies like Coronavirus pandemic or outbreak of epidemics in the country 

According to him, the programme focuses on listening to build workplace community to build trust and respect among workers and the masses to take responsibility of ownership of their fate to fight for what is right in work place and in the society, he stated

Ogun State is among 12 high burdened Covid-19 States in Nigeria including Lagos, Rivers, kaduna, Plateau, Oyo, Edo, Delta , Ondo, Kano, Kwara and the FCT Abuja where similar project is being implemented between January, 2021 and December 31, 2023
