Make Yourself Presentable- Real Estate Expert Urges Graduates




A Real Estate Expert, Estate Surveyor and Valuer Gbenga Olaniyan has stressed the need for young graduates in the built environment from Nigeria's Institutions of higher learning to always make themselves presentable, in order to secure their desired career jobs 

Olaniyan who was a guest lecturer during a recent premiere lecture series organized by the School of Environmental Studies, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic ,Abeokuta, identified personal hygiene, dressing, diction, individual confidence, attitude, having attractive curriculum vitae as some of the attributes that every graduate must possess before being considered for a career job in any descent corporate organization 

The guest lecturer in his power-point presentation on the theme of the lecture series titled "Real Estate And The Built Environment : Preparing For The Real World", also charged the young professionals to embrace continous professional development by acquiring additional skills , particularly in the Information Communication Technology ICT to excel in their choice of career in a highly competitive business environment in the country

The Fellow Of Nigeria Institution Of Estate Surveyors and Valuers enjoined them to always imbibe professional and ethical standard by providing quality services to earn the trust and confidence of the prospective clients

He identified three kinds of players in the professional service sector to include the diggers, stewards and beggars

The 'diggers" according to him,  are creative individuals,  risk takers,  entrepreneurs who are goal getters, they are passionate about their  careers while "stewards" are good at setting up structure for Organizations', they get to the peak of their careers such as Managing Directors, Permanent Secretaries amongst others 

He encouraged young graduates to have mentors who would assist them to actualize their career ambition, promising to always make himself available for such mentorship




Olaniyan however cautioned them against being  "beggars whom he described as individuals who are mentally lazy, always accept any situation as it is, not ambitious or focus and depend largely on other people for survival 





  
He also identified career opportunities in various courses including Architecture Technology, Arts and Industrial Design,  Building Technology, Estate Management and Valuation, Quantity Surveying, Surveying as well as Geo-informatics and Urban and Regional Planning






Presentation of plague to the guest in appreciation of the well delivered lecture 


The Director, School of Environmental Studies,Dr.Samson Agbato, other Chief Lecturers, Principal Lecturers, members of the Ogun State branch of Nigeria Institution Of Estate Surveyors and Valuers all showered encomium on the guest lecturer for detailed, educative and informative presentation which exposed the students to economic realities in the industry
