Peter Mbah of the the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared winner of the last Saturday March 18,2023 governorship election in Enugu State
Mbah was declared winner on Wednesday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), after scoring 160,895 votes to narrowly defeat his closest rivals — Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party (LP) who scored 157,552 and Uche Nnaji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 14,575 votes, amongst others.
Returning Officer, Prof Maduebibisi Ofo-Iwe, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike announced Mbah after he had satisfied the requirements of the law
“That Mbah Peter Ndubuisi of Peoples Democratic Party, having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,”
Mbah is the anointed candidate of the incumbent governor and PDP G5 member, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi whose two terms of eight years end on May 29, 2023.
Mbah’s victory comes hours after the electoral agency declared LP’s Alex Otti as the governor-elect in neighbouring Abia State.
With the victory in Enugu , PDP has increased the number of governorship seats won so far to nine while the ruling APC has 15 , both Labour Party and New Nigeria People's Party NNPP who won that of Kano State have one each out of the 28 states where elections were held
The two other states Adamawa and Kebbi States declared inconclusive by INEC
