CAF Confederation Cup: Rivers Utd Sustain Lead, Beat Motema Pembe 3-1 In Uyo

Nigeria's Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt on Thursday maintained its winning streak in the ongoing CAF Conferation Cup, after beating visiting DC Motema Pembe of DR Congo 3-1 at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom State capital

Ghanaian striker, Paul Acquah grabbed hattrick  for the Nigerian League Champions in the encounter dominated by the home team.

Acquah opened  scoring in the late minutes of the opening half of the match  after receiving a good pass from Ukeme Williams.

The Stanley Eguma tutored side extended their lead in the second half in the 55th minute through Acquah's strike after a well connected pass from compatriot, Emmanuel Ampiah.

While many were already tipping Rivers United to drown their opponents in Uyo, Mydo Yallet pulled one back for the visitors in the 78th minute to make it 2-1.

Coach Eguma however responded to the situation, making some tactical changes; bringing in the duo of Mohammed Shiraz and Augustine Agu to replace Malachi Ohawume and Ukeme Williams in the 85th minute.

While Rivers United appeared home and dry with a 2-1 win, Acquah produced another moment of brilliance to complete his hat trick in the third minute of stoppage time.

With the three straight victories after a disappointing 0-3 loss in the first match in Group B to Diable Noirs of Congo Brazzaville, the Nigerian side are topping the group with nine points ahead of ASEC Mimosa of Coted' Ivoire who have seven points after defeating Diable Noirs currently in the third position with four points while Motema Pembe are at the bottom with just two points in four matches played so far
