Cash Swap: Bank Customers Still Struggling To Get New Naira Notes In Ogun

Several bank customers in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital are still struggling to get new naira notes from the  Automated Teller Machines of most branches of the commercial banks, even after day-two of the extended dateline for the exchange of old notes for the new ones as announced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Sunday

Edu-biznews observed long queue of customers up till late hours of Tuesday at most of  the ATM points of branches of commercial banks, particularly in central business district of  Oke-Ilewo, Omida and Panseke areas where  they are large centration of banks

Only few of the ATM were dispensing cash to customers, as most of them were not loaded with the newly redesigned notes of N200, N500 and N1,000, leaving most people disappointed after waiting on long queue with no cash to take them

It was a tough moment for most customers who had earlier rushed to the banks over the weekend to deposit their old naira notes to beat the initial January 31, 2023 deadline fixed  for the exchange of old notes for the new ones

Meanwhile Govermor of CBN, Godwin Emefiele has continued to assured Nigerians of making the new notes available, accusing the commercial banks of conniving with few people to creat scarcity of the new notes

Emefiele  eventually appeared before the Ad-hoc Committee of the House of Representatives looking into the cashless policy of the apex bank and its implementation of the cash Swap policy which had brought untold hardship on most Nigerians
