Ogun Cargo Airport To Run Commercial Flights

The ongoing Ogun Agro Cargo International Airport in Ilishan-Remo will also run commercial flights as part of its operations when completed.

Governor Dapo Abiodun made this known during his recent presentation of the State’s 2023 Appropriation Bill tagged: “Budget of Continued Development and Prosperity” estimated at N472.25billion before the State House of Assembly at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The governor said the project had generated interest from airlines who were willing to commence cargo and commercial flight operations in the airport, adding that it would be the first phase for the development of an aerotropolis.

“This investment has started yielding results as airlines have shown interests in operating cargo and commercial flights at the airport. The Nigeria Customs Service has acquired land to have their operational base also. This will avail the citizens and residents of the State the opportunity to board their flight right within the State to anywhere they want to go rather than going else where”, Abiodun said.

Meanwhile the Governor says his administration has come up with initiatives and reforms which have continued to make the State a truly Public Private Partnership (PPP) friendly State, adding that the 2023 Budget would improve the business environment.

He noted that his administration would develop a dry port at Kajola area of the State to leverage on existing rail networks.

Responding, Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo assured that the House would give necessary attention to the timely passage of the Appropriation, calling on the Governor to construct a befitting House of Assembly Complex for the State.

The Budget proposal of N472.25 billion was made up of N201.84billion as recurrent expenditure and N270.41billion as capital expenditure with an allocation of N16,482,708,788.43 representing three percent of the budget for Agriculture and Industry.
