The Association of Mathematical Sciences and Optimisation has lauded the initiative of Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration in Ogun State for the introduction of technology into the teaching and learning activities in schools.
President of the Association, Prof. Johnson Olateru gave this commendation in Lagos, during the opening ceremony of a 5-Day International Conference on Fractional Calculus and its Application and Presentation of Award, organised by the Association at the University of Lagos.
Olateru stated that the various initiatives introduced by the administration in Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics teaching (STEM), Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA), Learners Identification Numbers (LIN), online school results, online application for screening of Students into flagship schools, among others had improved standard of education in the State.
The Association also honoured the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu with Good Ambassador's Award, for being a Professor of repute in mathematics, and a good representative of the University Of Lagos.
Speaking, the recipient, Prof. Arigbabu appreciated the Association for recognising the good work of the present administration and the honour bestowed on him as an alumnus of the University of Lagos, noting that his robust knowledge of mathematics had helped him to be versatile in so many fields.
In his keynote address on "New Trend in Fractional Calculus", Prof. Abdon Atangana said mathematics had a direct relationship with everyday human endeavors and could be used to change situations and solve environmental problems.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner visited the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, revealing that Ogun State Government was ready to partner with the institution, particularly on youth development programmes.
