A Nigeria-born, Uefa Professional A- License Coach, Brunks Warwick has asked the newly elected Ibrahim Gusau led board of the Nigeria Football Federation NFF to stop depending on foreign based talents and focus more on discovery of raw talents for the Super Eagles and other national teams
The former Assistant Coach of Guinea-Bissau cadet side , in a chat with Edu-biznews in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, expressed concern over the federation too much reliance on youngsters of Nigeria extraction for cadet and youth national teams
Warwick, an Apostle of developmental football stressed the need for new board of the football federation to put in place grasssroots programmes for discovery raw talents that will be nurtured to stardom by qualified coaches in the both male and female national teams
"Ibrahim Gusau should wake up and go back to basis to develop the game, we should go back to the basis where we used to discover players for the national teams from the academical competitions among secondary schools, the likes of Thompson Usiyen, Godwin Odinye, Adokiye Amesimaka are all products of academical", he stated
The former technical crew member of Liverpool John Moore University, to the World University Game in Japan in 2006 , recalled how Veteran Coach, Patrick Ekeji discovered ex-international and former Captain of Super Eagles, Henry Nwosu at Saint Fibar's College, Lagos and then nurtured him to stardom at "Greater Tommorow" team, a grassroots side
The one-time utility player for El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri, FC Porto of Portugal and Saint Entiente of France ,urged NFF under the leadership of the Gusau to ensure that only those with coaching certificates are allowed to coach in football academies that must be properly monitored by the football federation in various states in the country
The founder of Abeokuta based Santos Football Academy also asked NFF to encourage more wealthy individuals and corporate participation in the running of football clubs to restore confident in the local football
Warwick expressed his readiness to offer technical support to NFF in the area of football development in the country, if invited by the federation
He then cautioned the new board of NFF against interference in the choice of players for coaches working with the national teams, insisting that the technical crew should be allowed to their jobs , to achieve the desired results
