Oloyede, Olubara, Others Task New Olowu On Unity In Egbaland




Prominent Nigerians including, Registrar of Joint Admission and Matriculated Board JAMB, Prof.Isiaq Oloyede, the Olubara of Ibara, Oba Jacob Omolade have tasked the new Olowu of Owu-Kingdom, Oba(Prof) Saka Adelola Matemilola to kick-start the process of ensuring unity among the four divisions of Owu, Ake, Gbagura and Oke-Ona to build a stronger Egbaland

This was consensus of panel of discussants at a colloquium organized as part of this Saturday's coronation of the 14th Olowu of Owu-Kingdom and 2022 Odun Omo Olowu cultural festival, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library OOPL in Abeokuta,the Ogun State capital


Oloyede presiding over the colloquium with theme "History, Territory, People, Culture and Tradition of Owu, stressed the need for the Owus to promote unity with others in Egbaland and encourage marriages among people outside the Owu Kingdom, to strengthen the bond 


Olubara on his part, every kingdom in Egbaland must be respected as equal stakeholder, where no one is superior to others, in order to engender unity among traditional rulers within the Egba Nation 



Wife of former president and prime minister of Owu Kingdom, Bola Obasanjo was full of praises and  
stressed the need for unity among the Egbas irrespective of whether they are from Ake , Owu, Agura , Oke-Ona.


Also panelists at the event,Prof. Akinkunmi Agbola of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife,  Prof.Siyan Oyeweso of the Osun State University, Osogbo, Chief Tanmola Bodunde and Prince Munir Okedara in their separate speeches , appreciated exploit of Owus and stressed the need to document the rich history of the Owu as an established kingdom even before the emergence of Oyo empire and Yoruba race
 
Prof. Akinkunmu revealed in his research that Owu-people had been existence before the establishment of the Yoruba race in Ile-Ife, as the first among the Yoruba race who distinguished themselves before 19th century in trade and other aspects of life 

According to him, the Owu Kingdom later collapsed as a result intra tribal war which to the spread to several communities in Yoruba land 

Similarly Prof. Oyeweso stressed the need for proper documentation of Owu history, calling on the new Olowu to work on such documentation 


He said that Owu, remains Nation among the Yoruba race, said that the major problem facing Owu people is the challenge of development, saying there should be establishment of university where they can raise the next generation of leaders in various fields of endeavour

Towulade of Akiale , Oba Olufemi Ogunleye also agreed that there should be establishment of Institute of Owu 


Chief Ekundayo Opaleye who is chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the coronation and Odun Omo Olowu , was full of optimistic that Owus as people would rise up to challenge of documenting history and establish itself as a nation
