Ogun State Government has expressed readiness to partner private investors interested in the resucitation of Remo-North Local Government Area Modern Garri Processing Factory in Ode-Remo and reposition the factory under its Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, so as to make the facility a model for others in Nigeria in the areas of job creation, alleviation of poverty and promotion of food security
The State Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe gave the assurance in Abeokuta while meeting with representatives of the Remo Growth and Development Foundation, a group that sought the intervention of the State government in the resuscitation of the factory which stopped operation in 2019.
Longe said the present administration was willing to ensure the facility starts working again to boost the livelihood of the people and enable the residents of the area optimize the benefits of the State agro-cargo airport which is expected to be completed soon as well as a Special Agro-Processing Zone (SAPZ) which is in close proximity to the garri processing factory.
“The airport and the Special Agro-processing Zone (SAPZ) will be game-changer for the State. The projects will put the entire Ilishan area and Ogun State on the world map. So it is important that clusters like this are gotten right. Again, we want the garri processing factory to be a model. So if we get it right we are going to do it in other parts of the State,” the Commissioner said.
Longe called for an assessment of the current condition at the facility stressing that all relevant stakeholders should be engaged while relevant timelines for the implementation of the project should be stated.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Industry, Trade and Investment, Chief Remi Ogunmefun assured that the present Prince Dapo Abiodun administration would support the Foundation in getting the project working again considering the significant economic impact the project would have on entrepreneurs involved in the cassava value chain.
In his welcome address, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola commended the Remo Growth and Development Foundation for its zealousness towards the revival of the project adding that other foundations should emulate the group.
Also speaking, the General Secretary, Remo Growth and Development Foundation, Mr. Wole Awe said the Foundation was interested in the revival of the project so as to aid the economic growth of the people in the area stating that the group is pleased with the PPP arrangement for the project.
Other dignitaries at the meeting include Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Industry, Trade and Investment, Engr. Ladi Odujinrin and the Director, Agric Directorate, Remo Growth and Development Foundation, Professor Kola Adebayo.
