India 2022: Spain Retains U-17 FIFA Women Worldcup As Nigeria Finishes In Historic Third Position



The Spanish girls on Sunday retained their FIFA Women U-17 Worldcup title in India, after a managing a lone-goal win against the Colombians in the final of the 2022 edition of the  cadet competition

Nigeria's Flamingoes got a well deserved compensation for their efforts, after beating hardfighting German side to the bronze medal via 3-2 penalties in a third placed match played on the same day

The Nigerians failed to hold on to their 3-0 advantage, allowing the German girls  to come back into the game at three-all with 20minites left in the encounter

The Bankole Olowokere tutored side opened scoring in the 20th minute of the match, through Opeyemi Ajakaye who connected a long pass from Chidera Okenwa, Amina Bello's header found the net in the 49th minutes off Miracle Usani's corner 

Etim Edidiong made it third goal for Nigeria after connecting a corner taken by Tunmininu before the German came back forcefully with goals from Hella Veit, Pauline Bartz and Loreen Bender which extended the tension soaked match to penality shootouts 

The Nigerian side however avenged their 1-2 earlier loss to the Germans in Group B, as they converted three of the penalty kicks while the German girls missed three and converted two

With the victory, Nigeria equals 10 years old African record of bronze medal won by Ghana in 2012  in the cadet women global football championship
