ASUU Finally Suspends Eight-Month Old Strike In Varsities





Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU has finally suspended its strike in public universities in Nigeria, embarked upon in the past eight months to compel  the Federal Government to properly fund the university system 

The union announced the decision for the suspension of the strike at end of its  National Executive Council,NEC meeting  held in Abuja at early hours of Friday 

Edu-biznews however learnt that the strike was suspended with condition by lecturers during their  meeting which started on Thursday  at ASUU national secretariat,located in the premises of the University of Abuja


ASUU at its  meeting attended by its all states and zonal branches executive members  review development, including the order of the Court of Appeal,which had ordered it to obey the earlier order of the National Industrial Court ,by suspending the industrial action before  appealing against the judgement 

President of the union, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke is expected to announce the details of the suspension of the strike which its started on 14th of February, 2022 to demand for revitilization funds to public universities, review of the 2009 agreements and replacement of payment platform amongst others

It will be recalled that the NEC meeting of ASUU was held, following the recent intervention of the Speaker of House of Representatives, Right Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila who facilitated meeting between the presidency and leadership of the union during which both parties reached a compromise on grey areas including readiness of the Federal Government to pay four months of the outstanding salaries to the lectuerers
