The Club 782 of Old Students Association of African Church Grammar School, Abeokuta has named a block of six classrooms after Master Azeem Gbolahan who emerged as the overall best student in the 2022 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates in Ogun State
Gbolahan who is being rewarded by the association for his excellent performance, had also
won several awards in the Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists (JETs) competitions
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu during the commissioning and handing-over of the project at the school premises in Ita-Eko, Abeokuta, said the present administration was committed to the provision of quality education, as well as incentives to encourage students to do better through rewards for excellence.
Arigbabu who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, added that the government was working towards reducing number of learners in a classroom, to further promote better education standard that the State is known for
He noted that the signing of undertaking form had restored peace to schools and encouraged teachers and learners alike to put in their best.
"If you check what we have in the Junior Secondary Schools of our flagship public schools, you will discover that they are not more than 60 in a classroom, this is part of what we are doing to tackle the issue of crowdness, so as to further promote good and qualitative education", he said.
Speaking, the Principal of African Church Grammar School (Afrograms), Ita-Iyalode, Abeokuta, Pastor Olusola Elegbede appreciated the Club for the donation, saying it would further enhance conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.
He revealed that the school had always been the choice of parents that desire best education standard for their children.
Earlier in his remark, President of the Club, Akogun Oluwole Adebayo, pointed out that the generosity was borne out of passion to give back to the society in commemoration of the Club’s 40th anniversary, urging learners to always strive for the best, in order to be celebrated.
Responding, Master Gbolahan expressed gratitude to the present administration and the Afrograms Old Students Club 782 for the honour bestowed on him.
