Ogun Govt Reassures Pensioners Protesting Over Unpaid Gratuities, Other Entitlements

Ogun State Government has reassured Pensioners of payment of their retirement benefits , following the protest of the retirees to  the State Government Secretariat at Oke-Mosan Abeokuta over the unpaid gratuities amongst other entitlements

The State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Pensioners NUP,  Comrade Waheed Oloyede said had mobilized other pensioners  to stage the protest at the Governor's office, to press home their demands since
government is yet to respond to their demands two months after setting up a Committee to consider the   consequential adjustment of the monthly pensions to reflect the present economic realities

Oloyede said the Union wants the government to take action towards addressing the plights of the senior citizens by promptly attending to the delay in payment of their monthly pensions, arrears of gratuity, and consequential pensions adjustment, among others.

But Secretary to Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi,  assured  them of the readiness of government to find possible ways of ensuring payment of their retirement benefits and other demands, to ameliorate their pains, despite the dwindling federal allocation.

He promised the protesting pensioners that government would meet with the leadership of the union next week to proffer practicable solutions to their lingering demands.

He explained that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration had a lot to deal with, given the lean purse, adding that the financial ingenuity adopted by the present government in raising its Internally Generated Revenue had assisted in keeping the State afloat.

According to the SSG, ‘’the resources available to the State is increasing progressively, its financial burdens are increasing geometrically due to economic challenges confronting the nation as a whole.

"The present administration is empathetic toward pensioners’ situation and will always take its words as it is bonded. We will not promise what we can not do or promise to do all at a time, we are not such government’’. he pleaded
