The Ogun State Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated the management and technical staff of Remo Stars Football Club, Ikenne-Remo for the club's historic qualification for a continental competition, within a season of returning to the elite Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL
SWAN, in a congratulatory letter addressed to the Club's Chairman, Otunba Kunle Soname and jointly signed by its Chairman, Hakeem Akintunde and Secretary, Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji said the team's qualification for the CAF Confederations Cup (CAFCC) was not by sheer luck, but a dint of hard work, dedication, and commitment of both players, technical staff, and management of the club to redefine football management in Nigeria and put the state on the world map.
According to SWAN, "Remo Stars continental qualification is coming 35 years after the then Abiola Babes represented the state on the continent as the first Ogun state-based football club in 1987"
The association urged the players to continue to work with determination and motivation to maintain the momentum at the elite division of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
SWAN expressed optimism that, Remo Stars' success would motivate the state-owned Gateway United Football Club, Stormers FC of Abeokuta and Ijebu United in working hard next season and join the sky blue team in the elite division.
The congratulatory message reads in part:"Permit us to congratulate you on the result of your investment in providing platform for the youths to showcase their talents and disabuse their minds against social vices through the establishment of your noble initiative, Remo Stars Football Club.
"Your team's first ever qualification for the CAF Confederations Cup was not by sheer luck, but a dint of hard work, dedication and commitment of both players, technical staff and management of the club to redefine football management in Nigeria and put the club on world map"
"It is with great joy and happiness we received the news of your qualification as the first Ogun State based football club to have played in the African Continental Club competition since 1987 Abiola Babes last attended.
"This is, no doubt, the result of effort and hard work and everybody involved can be proud of this great achievement".
"The Association encourage the team to continue working with determination and motivation".
"We have no doubt, that this success will further motivate the State-owned Gateway United Football Club, Stormers FC of Abeokuta and Ijebu United to work harder next season in joining Remo Stars at the elite division of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).", the statement concluded
