No fewer than 1,200 youths and residents have been trained by the Ogun State Agricultural and Multipurpose Credit Agency (OSAMCA), in cinematography, hair making, barbing and other vocations, as part of efforts to empower the beneficiaries with requisite skills and promote entrepreneurship.
Beneficiaries were also trained in tie and dye production, shoemaking, bag making, cosmetics production, arts and facilitation, among others.
The State Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe who made this known at the training programme in Sagamu, explained that the initiative was a form of empowerment
According to her, the skill acquisition programme has helped in grooming potential entrepreneurs, in line with the vision of the present administration on building a more vibrant and sustainable Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sub-sector.
Longe added that the training was based on practical sessions and entrepreneurship strategies, to enable the beneficiaries to get adequate knowledge on how to start and run their businesses profitably and in a formalised manner.
"His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun is passionate about the MSMEs space. That is why OSAMCA is grooming potential entrepreneurs and teaching them skills that will give them access to capital that they can use to acquire equipment, premises and market their products, so they can start building businesses for the future," the Commissioner said.
Lauding the entrepreneurial drive of the beneficiaries for producing and profitably selling their products, while undergoing the training, Longe, charged them to make reliability their watchword and run their businesses formally and digitally, to continue to grow customer base.
The Commissioner assured that the government would continue to implement programme that would help grow sustainable MSMEs, disclosing that the third phase of the State's MSMEs Business Clinic would be held in June, 2022 in continuation of the present administration's drive towards helping to start and grow 10,000 enterprises.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman, OSAMCA, Hon. Abayomi Hunye, said the training was part of the Agency's capacity development and entrepreneurship initiatives, organised to equip the beneficiaries with 27 relevant skills, assuring that it would continue to carry out such training as beneficiaries would have access to loans and equipment from the Agency.
Some of the beneficiaries, Mr. Olalekan Atoloye, Miss Kehinde Oluwapelumi and Mrs. Oluwayemisi Onigbinde lauded Governor Abiodun for the training, calling on the government to sustain it and provide start-up grants to beneficiaries.
